Hyvää Päivää!
That’s hello in Finnish. I’m not in Finland, though it would be quite nice if I was. I think we should all collectively scream together at how fucking fast October has gone. Is anybody else completely freaking out that it’s almost November? Just me? Okay, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool.
Musings this month are shorter since I actually can’t remember most of October. Just blur after blur, really. But here are a handful of things I appreciated this month.
1: Pumpkin carving.
2: Achieving goals that you set for yourself is one of the most satisfying feelings ever. I hit my reading goal for the year.
3: Sunsets in October are just as amazing as those in the summer.
4: Impromptu photo walks. I drove for an hour to Brighton just to catch the late afternoon sun and sunset. It was so worth the time alone to explore quietly around the little seaside town.
5: Finding my perfect pair of pleated pants. Not to be entirely dramatic, but this is perhaps my greatest achievement this month.
6: Buying another coat just because you love it. I try not to lean too much on the “treat yo’self” concept, but this was one amazing treat.
7: Crunching leaves as you walk. Name a better sound, I dare you.
8: Pottery classes! Making art is therapeutic even if your teacher needs to literally hold your hand as you do it. The pots below are basically 90% of the teachers doing.
9: Flying to Ireland for 24hrs to see my Granddad.
10: Getting drunk with my cousins and catching up on everything that’s happened.
11: I shared a fiction piece that I wrote for a writing group that I’m part of. It’s one of the first times I’ve shared something personal like that.
12: Starting anything for the first time whether it’s a new career or a new hobby can be unlock a new determination in you, you didn’t realise you had.
13: Trying long recipes, even time consuming ones, can be a treat and a form of self-care.
So, tell me, has October disappeared for you to? What things brought you joy this month? Any special moments, feelings? Tell me them below!
