I’ve been wanting to change up monthly musings for a while, so here it is.
Hot off the press; the latest, newest, spiciest list of things I can’t help but share - with an even spicier name: 10 Things of Interest.
I’d like this new version to become a space to share what I’ve read, listened to and watched. There are so many incredible wor
ks by some highly talented writers on Substack. It’s only right to share them with you, dear reader, instead of keeping them to myself…
This red onion marmalade recipe from David Lebovitz’s newsletter that I’m excited to try out this weekend.
One of my favourite writers
always writes topical pieces that hit the nail on the head. This month she looked at the self-care delusion and how “self care is not self help. It’s not about self-optimisation. It should not feel self conscious, or an effort, or require meticulous planning.”Writer Heather Havrilesky who had her column “Ask Polly” with The Cut, has moved over to Substack. In “Get My Mom Out of My Head!”, she addresses the idea that we shouldn’t ask for advice from people who are incapable of being objective, respectful, and generous about our unique needs and desires. A piece that hits rather close to home for me.
Discovering Nick Cave’s writing on The Red Hand Files and falling in love with the poetry of his words.
This gnocchi with wild mushroom recipe that was so worth the mess in the kitchen mashing potatoes through a sieve.
The Atlantic’s “American Religion is not dead yet” acknowledges that religion and spiritual offerings has very much moved online. Although participation in traditional religious settings (churches, synagogues, mosques, etc) is in decline, “spiritual seekers are popping up elsewhere: in conversations with chaplains, in communities started online that end up forming in-person bonds as well, in social-justice groups rooted in shared faith.”
Mixed Feelings wrote about learning to set boundaries with yourself, which if anybody knows how to do it, let me know.
This Air Fryer Miso-Ginger recipe for salmon that is utterly delicious. Yes, I’ve become the owner of an air fryer. I’m never going back. Also you can use ginger paste rather than fresh ginger and it works equally as well.
This “The Underground Fight Club Racking Up Millions of YouTube Views” article, which in an interesting turn of events is actually looking to curb youth violence by “containing the violence in controlled specs.”
Also, please enjoy this artist recommendation by
