Last week I wrote about how to plan a dinner party and I said that once “you’ve got appetisers, sides and salads being passed, the main dish hardly needs to be a showstopper.” And that’s true, and that got me thinking a lot about side dishes that can accompany a main dish. In planning my own dinner party for New Years, I’ve been hunting the internet for good, but easy, recipes that can be whipped together - food that offers flavour and flair and variation to the table.
So after delicate hours of research, I present to you fifteen options that you could mix and match to have a wonderful set of sides. I’ve broken it down into categories so you’ve got a good selection to balance out the main meal.
Remember - you can make any of these dishes in your own style. Tomatoes lean to more of a summer dish but if you love them, make it as a winter salad instead. There are no limits to what you bring to the table, as long as you and your guests enjoy it.
