On the Verge is a free weekly newsletter shared every Sunday at 3pm.
You can also share excerpts of today’s On the Verge on social media, forward it to someone who might benefit, or text it to a friend. Thank you for reading.
I know when my substack arrives in your inbox it’s sandwiched between scatty advertisements from a brand you don’t remember signing up for and LinkedIn notifications. And that’s okay — I don’t expect you to read all my work, and I appreciate it when you show up for the ones that you enjoy.
I’ve been writing for over a year now and some of my earlier posts are ones that I’m still really proud of. I aim to produce something each week that makes us feel connected — topics that you would ultimately relate to because it’s something everybody goes through at some point in their lives: ageing, friendship, heartbreak, nostalgia, grief.
I’m deep in a rabbit hole of writing this week both for Substack and submission essays, and so thought it might be nice to highlight two of my older pieces that have been on my mind recently.
LDF’s or Long Distance Friends
If I’m not lamenting about my age, I think often of friendships and how valuable they are to us as people. In this piece, I talk about the friendship I have with a best friend who lives thousands of miles away and why we make such an effort to remain close.
Short term habits
With winter approaching rapidly, I’ve begun to pick up my inside hobbies. Habits is about the recreations we collect and return to for short periods in the year. For me it’s knitting and journaling. I’ve tried shifting my mindset recently to better appreciate those things I enjoy — it’s something I recommend everybody do, at least once in a while.
The comments and Substack Chat are always open if you want to share your thoughts and wisdom with us. If not, just enjoy!
I’m so glad you’re here.
